Connection of engine revolution and fuel consumption signals

Engine: C14SE, X16XEL, Z18XE, Y20DTH.

Signals corresponding to engine revolution speed and fuel consumption are taken from Engine Control Module.

The tables below give labels corresponding to both signals depending on engine model. Wire with engine revolution speed signal is always green and wire with fuel consumption signal is always black-brown.

Injector driving signal can also be used as an alternative fuel consumption signal.

Further description corresponds to Astra F. ECM is placed inside the car near right front.

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable again.
  2. Disassembly plastic threshold. ECM unit is placed under metal surround.

  3. Unscrew 4 M10 screws (red arrows) and detach surround together with ECM.

  4. Take ECM out of surround and disconnect cables (green arrows show push direction).

  5. Connect required signals to YACC.
  6. Mount ECM with the same steps in the reverse order.

X16XEL engine

Two alternative methods of fuel consumption signal connection are shown below.

Method 1. Adding wire to the unconnected pin of connector.

Fuel consumption signal designed for factory board computer MID is present at ECM pin B12. However, use of MID was not indented in this particular car and therefore there was no corresponding wire in the wires bundle.

  1. With a screwdriver bend endings (indicated with green arrows) and take hackle out.

  2. Prepare own wire using similar connector. Photo shows a wire just before putting into connector. Red arrow indicates point of connection - ECM B12 pin. Green arrow indicates engine revolution signal wire (ECM B13 pin).

Method 2. Connection to existing wire.

Fuel injector signal is a second source of fuel consumption data. There are four wires.

  • Pin C2, injector number 1, brown-black wire.
  • Pin C3, injector number 2, brown-white wire.
  • Pin C4, injector number 3, brown-red wire.
  • Pin C6, injector number 4, brown-green wire.
  1. Wires connected to injectors are marked with arrows. Green arrow indicates the wire that will be connected with YACC.

  2. With a solder pencil remove insulation at 5 mm length.

  3. Remove insulation from second wire in the same way. Twist both wires together.

  4. Solder.

  5. Protect with insulation and tie.

C14SE engine

Second example correspond to C14SE engine. Experience gained earlier shows that disconnecting ECM cables can be done without ECM detaching. You have to take relay (indicated by green arrow) out.

In this case both interesting wires are included in the bundle.

  • corresponding to engine revolution speed (green, C2 pin),
  • corresponding to fuel consumption (black-brown, B4 pin)

and solder them with YACC wires.
